The artist recently retired as an Associate professor of Art at Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City Florida.  He has been active as an Art Professor in Florida for over 35 years serving also on the faculty of  Florida State University for a portion of that time.  He is an affiliate artist for LeMoyne Art Center in Tallahassee, and has served on the advisory board of FLORICA, the Florida Costa Rica Institute.

He has created works for installation or exhibit in Florida and the Southeast as well as Internationally for countries such as Costa Rica and Spain.

The artist has won numerous awards including at various times the BEST OF FLORIDA, OUTSTANDING AMERICAN EDUCATOR, OUTSTANDING ALLIED ARTIST OF NW FLORIDA (by the American Institute of Architects), and has been listed in Who's Who in the Southeast and Who's Who among America's Teachers 03-04.  The artist was recently honored with a retrospective exhibit of his work at the Northwest Florida Visual Arts Center in Panama City, Florida entitled: ROLAND HOCKETT - 50 YEARS AND 50 DAYS.

ROLAND HOCKETT has produced and continues to produce works for numerous collections, including the LIBERTY mural in Juan Santa Maria International Airport in Costa Rica; the Panama City, Fl. International Airport; the U.S.Embassy in Costa Rica ( Centro Cultural); EAGLE sculptures for the Florida Supreme Court; and many other private and corporate collections in the United States and Costa Rica.

He has also fabricated and recently had installed: "NEW LIBERTY III".  This large three section copper sculpture weighing 3 1/2 tons was intended to be a gift to Spain from the State of Florida and from Costa Rica, and the artist.  It was approved for installation in the Canary Islands with the Costa Rica Consul to act as host for the installation.  Transportation had yet to occur when the events of September 11, 2001 took place in New York and the complexities of that time and situation here prompted  the artist to decide that the sculpture should stay in Florida.  'NEW LIBERTY III' was gifted to Gulf Coast Community College where it will serve as a focal point to a new entrance area to the college well into the future.

The situation that allowed for its final placement does not diminish respectful feelings relative to its original intent.  This sculpture continues to symbolically represent postive interaction between cultures and it is to be dedicated to Friendship, and Interaction among nations with special respectful note of postive interaction between Florida, Spain, and Costa Rica.
